  • DO register with the Secretary of State as a nonprofit corporation; elect a board, etc.
  • DO outline a specific purpose for the funds to be raised—MORE programs; LESS administrative (35%)
  • DO register with watchdog organizations i.e., CharityNavigator.org; CharityWatch.org; GuideStar.org
  • DON’T be offended if you are refused; it takes time to build trust. Keep receipts and records.
